I’m From Burlington, ON, Canada.

by ken

In my third year of University I heard a quote by Albert Einstein where he said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”

For some reason that quote cleared up all of the doubt in my mind and I decided I was going to stop pretending to be a straight guy.

It took me until I was 22 to finally come out and I began by telling my closest friends, who were straight. They were all surprised but all of them were very supportive and kind.

When I told my best friend he stared at me for about 15 seconds, saw that I was horribly nervous and shaking, so he gave me a big hug and told me that “nothing changes” and we “always be friends.” Those were the kindest, most timely words I could hear at that moment.

When I told my mom she looked at me and said, “I hope you didn’t torture yourself too long with that.” I looked at her with tears in my eyes and replied, “Long enough, Mom.”

I’m out, have a wonderful boyfriend and couldn’t be happier with my life.
