My partner and I bought this house in 2006. It’s a light grey ranch style built in the 1950’s. We have two dogs — Leroy Brown is a Yorkshire Terrier and Luna is an Italian Greyhound. They have a huge backyard at this house, as the house is modest but sits on a double lot, so there’s lots of grass to mow in the summer, but well worth it. “Country Living in the City” was how the house was described in the real estate advertisements. The house sits almost exactly half a mile from Lake St. Clair, which separates Michigan from Canada. During the warmer months we can walk the dogs down the half mile to Jefferson Ave and admire this vast lake as well as the million dollar homes that face it. Lake St. Clair is a boating lake, so any given day you’ll have a sailboat, speedboat, or even a large tanker floating by. The neighborhood is mostly families, as the school system is known to be pretty good. We are aware of two other gay households within a block of us, one of which we socialize with on occasion, the other a single man in his forties, who was very kind to help us out when a massive limb fell and punctured our roof during an ice storm in 2007. Almost every day I come home from work and make us dinner. Sometimes my step-dad stops over, but mostly it’s just us eating grilled chicken and watching Jeopardy. This is my life in St. Clair Shores, MI.
