In Lauren’s Junior year of high school, there was a “No Place For Hate” month. The month was followed by a panel with students talking about different forms of hate, like racism, classism, etc. Lauren’s GSA adviser asked if anyone wanted to represent the LGBTQ community.

“We all were kind of like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ And I said, well, if no one else volunteers, I’ll do it.”

In front of her entire school, in the gym, Lauren stood up and told everyone she was a lesbian. Continue Reading to find out how the school reacted.

  1. It was a very brave thing to do to put yourself out there, especially when there are so many people older than you are that still aren’t ready. I’m so glad to hear you got a positive response.

Stories like this make me realize how far we’ve come in the last 15 years.
