Jared was an active member in his church and volunteered at a local homeless shelter. After another church member discovered he was gay, he was soon faced with an option: stop being gay or leave.
At some point they just said, “Hey, you need to leave because your spirit is killing this place.” I was like, “Alright, this is done then.”
Jared, through an unlikely turn of events, found himself living in New York City and a new church. At the new church he recovered all the things, such as art and music, that he had lost from leaving his previous church, and ultimately, rediscovering his whole self.
Years went by but so many people came into my life that really affirmed my spirituality and my sexuality, so like my whole self was there. There wasn’t a part of me that was silent.
